Every individual seems to prefer to die rather than suffer. They all want to preserve their dignity, yet when it comes to another person they say "Oh it can't be that bad, they still have a chance of getting bettter". Most people adapt the 'it will never really happen to me' attitude, still what if it did happen to you? What if it was you who was confined to a hospital bed, unable to move, eat or even go to the toilet. Instead everything is done for you with the help of a tube? Would you still view life as a sacred thing? Infact would you still consider this life? Would you be content to let the law be? If you believe that we all should have the power to stop pain from being inflicted upon us then why do you think euthanasia is any different. What if you every breath you took or would ever take was agony because you suffered from bronchitis and emphysema? Wouldn't you like the choice to end it all? What if you had spent all your life as a very active person but suddenly you get diagnosed with multiple sclerosis? Then a serious infection robs you of your ability to move. It gets so bad that you can't even roll over in bed, you don't even have control of your bowls. You are losing sight in your eyes. Doctors tell you that you will probably live like this for years to come. It is pretty certain that you will never have control over your body again. You can't even try to commit suicide by suffocation with a plastic bag,oh no you are too weak for that. Shouldn't a person like this have the right to choose whether to end this so called existence? There is a risk that if we make euthanasia legal doctors might abuse their power, but when you think about it you run the same risk with everything that we let somebody else handle. For example we let the others experiment on genetic material. This gives them the power to play God, but we try to control the chance of that happening by setting a set of guidelines or laws. So why not do the same with this issue of euthanasia. Given the right restrictments, we would be able to let our suffering loved ones die with dignity as they were born with dignity.
